What Is
pectoral implant surgery?
Pectoral Implant surgery or Male Chest Enhancement Surgery is a plastic surgery that is done to create the perfect male chest contour. This surgery is similar to the calf implants surgery which is also popular amongst men.
Dr Santosh Bhatia, the Board-certified Plastic Surgeon of Vanity Cosmetic Clinic, Mumbai has observed that men who undergo Pectoral Implants surgery become more confident in their physique and look like traditionally attractive, well-built men. This also adds to their mental wellness.
What are the
different methods of pectoral implants surgery?
Pectoral Implant Surgery is performed by either inserting Silicone implants in the chest or Fat grafting. Dr Santosh Bhatia states that silicone implant method is more common than fat grafting.
Following are the details on the two methods:
Silicone Implants
Silicone implants are a preferred method of pectoral implants all over the world. These implants feel natural, look natural and give the male chest an attractive cut and proper contouring. They are safe to use and can last for a very long time.
Silicone implants are also used by Plastic Surgeons in case of Breast Augmentation and Buttock Augmentation. Silicone is one of the most naturally accepted materials by the human body and hence it is used in multiple ways for different cosmetic surgeries.
An important piece of information that Dr Santosh Bhatia would like to share here is that unlike women’s silicone implants which are made of silicone gel, men’s silicone implants are made of solid silicone. Thus, there are zero chances of the silicone leaking out.
Fat Grafting
Fat grafting is another method for improving the male chest. In this method, the cosmetic surgeon extracts excess fat present in one part of the body and then grafts it inside the chest to increase their volume and give them a proper shape. Generally, this method is rarely used in Pectoral Implant Surgery since most of the patients are quite athletic and have a low-fat percentage, making it impossible to extract and transfer the fat.
Dr Santosh Bhatia notes that this method is preferred because there is no foreign object involved in the surgery. It is the patient’s own fat that is utilised. Hence, the body also accepts it quickly and assimilates it naturally.

the pectoral implants surgery?
In the case of pectoral implants surgery, the pre-surgery prep is not much for the patient. Dr Santosh Bhatia, a Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, may ask you to undergo a couple of routine blood and urine tests in order to establish basic parameters for the surgery. He may ask you to discontinue a few medicines which might conflict with your recovery process later. And if you are a smoker, you will be asked to quit smoking in the weeks leading up to the surgery.
But other than that, no special preparation is required from the patient’s side. Vanity Cosmetic Clinic, Mumbai advises its patients to maintain a positive and relaxed frame of mind in the days leading up to the surgery.
How is the
pectoral implants surgery performed at vanity cosmetic clinic?
The procedure begins with the administration of anaesthesia. The anaesthesia could either be general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia with intravenous sedation. The right choice for your unique case will be made by Dr Santosh Bhatia, the Board-certified Plastic Surgeon of Vanity Cosmetic Clinic.
The procedure after this varies between the two methods mentioned above.
- Let’s first look at the Silicone-Implant Based procedure:
When the patient is under the effect of the anaesthetic, Dr Santosh Bhatia begins the procedure by making a small incision (about two inches long) in the axilla (the hair-bearing region of the armpit). Once the incision is made, special surgical instruments are inserted through it. These instruments create a snug pocket/space between the muscles (pectoralis major and pectoralis minor). The selected implant is then inserted carefully by Dr Santosh Bhatia, and aligned into the new space made between the chest muscles. The incision is then sutured and the same procedure is repeated on the other side of the chest. - Fat-Grafting Pectoral Implants Procedure:
Once the anaesthesia is administered and the patient is comfortably numb, the liposuction begins. Dr Santosh Bhatia extracts excess fat from a predetermined site on the patient’s body through a cannula. Then the extracted fat is purified. The purification process involves removing all other biological entities from the extraction and leaving behind only pure fat. The next step is inserting the purified fat cells into the chest of the patients via syringes connected to the cannula. The fat is grafted in layers to ensure a smooth and cohesive deposit. Dr Santosh Bhatia also takes extra care to ensure that the fat is divided between the two sides in such a way that the chest looks symmetrical and equally buffed up on both sides.
What to
expect during the recovery from pectoral implants surgery?
After the surgery, you will have to remain at the clinic for a couple of hours. During these hours your vitals will be monitored and once, Dr Santosh Bhatia has ensured that your vitals are stable and you are fully alert, you will be discharged from the clinic.
Your chest may have been bandaged and there may be drainage tubes attached to you. These need to be kept in place so as to remove any excess fluid from your body.
You may be prescribed compression garments. The compression garments need to be worn 24/7 till Dr Santosh Bhatia explicitly tells you to stop wearing them. Compression garments play a vital role in your recovery since they help in the settlement of the enhanced chest. The swelling also subsides faster due to the compression garments.
Generally, patients feel pain or discomfort for 10-14 days. Dr Santosh Bhatia may prescribe medication to manage the pain and you will be given details of your follow-up visits. As a patient, you must ensure that you follow all the instructions given to you and take your medication on time.
An essential factor in a healthy recovery is not performing any upper body exercises (especially those involving weights) for 12 weeks. No sports or gym workouts for 8 weeks after the surgery. Patients are allowed to take walks after 2 weeks of surgery.
Any other questions or doubts about the recovery can be raised during your consultation with Dr Santosh Bhatia, the Board-certified Plastic Surgeon of Vanity Cosmetic Clinic, Mumbai.
